Tarangire boasts a vast number of baobabs that first capture the eye as you enter Tarangire National Park. The gently rolling countryside is dotted with these majestic trees, which seem to dwarf the animals that feed beneath them.Tarangire National Park covers approximately 2,600 square kilometers and in the dry season, is second only to Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area in concentrations of wildlife. The park is spectacular in the dry season when many of the migratory wildlife species come back to the permanent waters of Tarangire River. Huge herds of elephants gather to stay in Tarangire until the onset of the rains when they migrate again to new grazing areas.

Day 06: 2020 A full day of game viewing in Tarangire National Park.
Early drive in the morning to see the sunrise and spend the entire morning viewing the animals. Return to lodge for a leisurely breakfast and short rest. After resting, continue with game viewing to the southern part of the park and visit Silalei Swamps. This remote swamp is an absolutely fascinating place to visit.
The swamp covers an area of some 70 square kilometers and it acts like a sponge. During the rainy season, water is stored here and in the dry season the swamp slowly releases water into the Tarangire River. The swamp is green for the majority of the year and it makes for an incredibly beautiful backdrop to the dry land surrounding it. To truly appreciate this place, go there in the dry season.
There is a picnic sight at the swamp that looks out over the expanse of the park. As you enjoy your lunch overlooking the swamp, you will see what appears to be a hundred large buildings hidden in the grass. After picking up a pair of binoculars, you realize that the buildings are actually elephants! Continue exploring the park until late evening and return to lodge for an overnight stay.
